Viking Stay Second Despite Rosenborg Setback
Viking FK remain in the thick of the Eliteserien title race, sitting just one point behind leaders Bodø/Glimt after 17 matchdays. A 2–1 defeat to Rosenborg on 14 August was a rare blip in an otherwise outstanding season. A historic European night at Lyse Arena against Dinamo Zagreb is now just days away.
Viking Hold Second Spot After Rosenborg Defeat
Viking FK's Eliteserien campaign suffered a setback on Friday 14 August when Rosenborg came away from the clash with a 2–1 victory. The defeat snapped a run of positive form for the Stavanger side, who had beaten Sarpsborg FK 2–1 at home on 8 August and thrashed IK Start 3–0 away on 1 August.
Despite the loss, Viking remain firmly in the title race, sitting second in the Eliteserien table with 40 points from 17 matches — just one point behind leaders Bodø/Glimt, who have 41 points.
Strong Season Record Gives Fans Plenty to Cheer
Viking's 2026 campaign has been one of the most impressive in recent memory. The club has recorded 13 wins, one draw and three defeats across 17 Eliteserien matchdays, scoring 40 goals and conceding only 17. Home form at Lyse Arena has been particularly commanding, with seven wins from seven home matches and an average attendance of over 15,700.
Some of the season's standout results include a 5–0 demolition of Bodø/Glimt, a 4–1 win over Molde and a 3–0 home victory over Rosenborg — all in front of sold-out crowds at Lyse Arena.
Eyes on Europe as Dinamo Zagreb Comes to Lyse Arena
With the Eliteserien title race in full swing, Viking also have a major European occasion approaching. Dinamo Zagreb are scheduled to visit Lyse Arena on Wednesday 26 August for a UEFA Champions League qualifying tie — a fixture that will mark one of the biggest European nights in the stadium's recent history.
Before that, Viking host Aalesund in Eliteserien matchday 19 on Saturday 29 August. With a packed calendar of domestic and European football ahead, the coming weeks at Lyse Arena promise to be extraordinary.
