Viking Drop Points in Trondheim but Eyes Fix on Zagreb Showdown
Viking FK suffered a narrow 2–1 defeat at Rosenborg on 14 August, leaving them one point adrift of Eliteserien leaders Bodø/Glimt. Attention now turns swiftly to Lyse Arena, where a UEFA Champions League qualifying tie against Dinamo Zagreb awaits on 26 August — one of the biggest nights in the club's recent history.
Viking Slip Up in Trondheim
Viking FK suffered a 2–1 defeat away at Rosenborg in the Eliteserien on 14 August, a result that keeps Bodø/Glimt at arm's length at the top of the table. Viking had pulled one back through Christiansen in the 81st minute, but goals from Ceïde and a late Chiakha strike for Rosenborg proved enough to seal the three points for the hosts at Lerkendal Stadion in front of 17,566 fans.
The loss is only Viking's third in 17 Eliteserien matches this season, leaving the Stavanger club on 40 points — one point behind Bodø/Glimt — with the title race very much alive heading into the final stretch of the summer.
Eyes Turn to Lyse Arena
Despite the setback in Trondheim, the mood around Lyse Arena remains electric. Viking's form across the season — 13 wins, one draw and three defeats, with a goal difference of +23 — underlines just how strong a campaign this has been for the defending champions.
The club's next home fixture is no ordinary league game. Viking host Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb on 26 August in a UEFA Champions League qualifying tie, a reward for their title-winning 2025 season. It is a landmark occasion for the club and promises to deliver one of the biggest atmospheres Lyse Arena has seen in years.
Busy Schedule Ahead
Three days after the European showdown, Viking return to domestic duty when they welcome Aalesund to Lyse Arena on 29 August for Eliteserien matchday 19. With the title race so tight, dropping further points at home is not an option.
The coming fortnight is arguably the most important of Viking FK's season — European glory and a domestic championship are both still firmly within reach. Supporters are urged to secure their tickets for the Zagreb tie early, as demand at Lyse Arena is already high.
