Viking Sit Second and Soaring Ahead of August Fixtures
Defending Eliteserien champions Viking FK are second in the table with 27 points from ten matches as the season heads into August. The Stavanger club travel to IK Start on Saturday before welcoming Sarpsborg 08 to Lyse Arena the following weekend. European football is already secured for the autumn.
Defending Champions Hold Second Spot
Viking FK enter August in commanding form, sitting second in the 2026 Eliteserien table with 27 points from 10 matches — nine wins and just one defeat. The defending champions have been in prolific attacking form, scoring 29 goals and conceding only 10 across their opening ten league fixtures.
Top scorer for the club this season is Peter Christiansen, who leads the way with six goals in all competitions. The side's blistering start to the campaign has already secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League play-off round — a remarkable achievement for the Stavanger club.
A Trip to Kristiansand Before the Home Return
Viking's attention now turns to Saturday's away fixture at IK Start in Kristiansand, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00 at Sparebanken Norge Arena. It is the sixteenth round of the season, and the club will be eager to close the gap at the top of the table.
After the visit to Start, Lyse Arena will be back in the spotlight on 8 August when Sarpsborg 08 come to Stavanger for a 16:00 kick-off — the next home match for the Rogaland faithful to look forward to.
A Season to Remember at Lyse Arena
Lyse Arena has been a fortress this term. Viking have recorded a maximum capacity crowd of 15,900 at no fewer than four home fixtures already this season, underlining the enormous appetite supporters have shown for the champions' title defence.
With home games still to come against Sarpsborg 08, Aalesund, Kristiansund and Lillestrøm before the autumn run-in, the stadium is set for another string of high-voltage Eliteserien nights throughout August and September.
