Leaders Viking host KFUM Oslo at Lyse Arena in midweek cup tie

2 min read

Viking welcome KFUM Oslo to Lyse Arena on Wednesday evening, with kick-off at 6:00 PM. The league leaders then face a busy run that includes a trip to Bodø/Glimt on Friday and a second meeting with KFUM on November 8.

Cup tie under the lights

Viking host KFUM Oslo at Lyse Arena on Wednesday evening, with kick-off at 6:00 PM. Fixture listings show the match as a cup tie. It is the first of two meetings between the sides in just over a week, because the clubs also meet in the Eliteserien at Lyse Arena on November 8 at 5:00 PM.

Viking arrive as league leaders. They have 59 points from 24 games and are three clear of Bodø/Glimt, who have 56. The home side beat Fredrikstad 3-2 on October 17 and Tromsø 3-1 on October 25. Both wins came at Lyse Arena.

The opposition

KFUM Oslo sit eighth in the Eliteserien with 30 points from 24 matches. That puts them one point ahead of Brann, Vålerenga and Fredrikstad, who all have 29. The visitors are far from the relegation fight, with Start bottom on 19 points and Kristiansund on 20.

The cup tie is also a first look at the opponent before the league meeting at the same ground on November 8. FotMob lists KFUM's goal difference at minus nine.

A busy week ahead

The schedule leaves little room to rest. Two days after the KFUM tie, Viking travel to Bodø/Glimt on October 30 in a league game against the side chasing them. The gap at the top is only three points, so that trip carries obvious weight.

FotMob also lists a fixture against Sabah FK on November 4. After that comes the league return against KFUM Oslo on November 8.

The stage: Lyse Arena

Lyse Arena is Viking's home in Jåttåvågen, Stavanger. The stadium opened in 2004 at a cost of 160 million NOK. The club owns it. It replaced Stavanger Stadion as Viking's home ground.

Its current capacity is 15,900. The record attendance is 16,600, set on June 24, 2007 when Viking met Brann. The pitch is artificial turf.

Since January 2025 the ground has carried the name Lyse Arena, after Lyse took over the naming rights from SR-Bank. The agreement runs for five years, covering 2025 to 2029.

Getting to the ground is simple for supporters. Jåttåvågen railway station is right outside, and the journey from Stavanger city centre takes about eight minutes by train. That should help on a midweek evening when many fans will come straight from work.

The home side have the league lead and recent form on their side as they host KFUM Oslo under the lights.
