Lyse Arena Gears Up for a Historic European Autumn
Lyse Arena is on course for its most memorable season in years, with four sell-out Eliteserien crowds already registered and UEFA Champions League play-off football on the horizon. Defending champions Viking FK, sitting four points clear at the top of the 2026 Eliteserien, are chasing a historic European milestone that would bring continental group-stage football to Stavanger for the first time.
A Season of Records at Lyse Arena
Lyse Arena is experiencing one of its most electric seasons in years. Four Eliteserien home matches in 2026 have already sold out at a capacity of 15,900, and Viking FK's average home attendance of 15,821 is one of the highest in the club's history. With eight home league matches still to come — including clashes with Sarpsborg 08, Lillestrøm, and Vålerenga — the stands in Stavanger show no sign of quietening down.
The stadium also played host to historic title celebrations earlier this summer, after Viking sealed the 2025 Eliteserien championship with a crushing victory that sent Stavanger into a night-long party.
Champions League Football on the Horizon
Beyond the league, Lyse Arena is preparing for an even bigger stage. Viking FK have secured a place in the 2026–27 UEFA Champions League play-off round — the furthest the club has ever progressed in European competition. Should they advance through the play-off, European group-stage football would arrive in Stavanger for the first time.
Coaches Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim and Morten Jensen, who are now in their sixth season together at the helm, have described the prospect as extraordinary, calling the demanding schedule ahead unequivocally positive for the club.
The Road Ahead at Lyse Arena
With Viking sitting first in the Eliteserien and Champions League ambitions very much alive, the fixture list promises a bumper autumn at Lyse Arena. Home league matches against Sarpsborg 08 (8 August), Aalesund (29 August), Kristiansund (13 September), Lillestrøm (20 September), Fredrikstad (18 October), and Vålerenga (29 November) are all still to come, giving supporters plenty of reasons to keep filling the stadium deep into December.
