Viking FK returned to winning ways on home soil on Saturday 30 August, defeating Aalesund 2–1 at Lyse Arena in Matchday 19 of the 2026 Eliteserien. The result kept the defending champions firmly in the title race, sitting second in the table with 43 points from 18 matches played.
The win came just four days after a dramatic European night on the same turf, when Viking overcame Dinamo Zagreb 3–1 at Lyse Arena in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round on 26 August — a result that followed a 2–2 draw in Zagreb the previous week.
Title Race Goes Down to the Wire
With 13 wins, one draw and three defeats this season, Viking's goal difference of +24 underlines their quality across the campaign. The club currently sit one point behind leaders Bodø/Glimt, with a string of home fixtures at Lyse Arena still to come in the closing months of the season.
Viking are the reigning Eliteserien champions, and a second consecutive title would cement the club's status as the dominant force in Norwegian football. The remaining schedule includes home ties against Kristiansund BK, Lillestrøm, Fredrikstad, Tromsø, KFUM Oslo and Vålerenga before the season concludes on 13 December.
European Nights Light Up Lyse Arena
The Champions League double-header against Dinamo Zagreb was a landmark occasion for the Stavanger club and its supporters. Lyse Arena — which holds 15,900 spectators — has proven a formidable home fortress, with Viking having lost just three league games all season.
With both domestic and European ambitions very much alive heading into September, all eyes at Lyse Arena will turn to Friday's away trip to Sandefjord on 4 September before the squad returns home to continue their charge for a historic back-to-back Eliteserien title.
