Viking Seal Champions League Advance, Then Beat Aalesund
It has been a stunning few days for Viking FK and Lyse Arena. The Stavanger club overcame Dinamo Zagreb in a UEFA Champions League play-off on 27 August before defeating Aalesund 2–1 in the Eliteserien three days later, keeping their title hopes very much alive.

Viking FK's home ground in Stavanger hosted one of the biggest nights in the club's recent history on Wednesday, 27 August, when Dinamo Zagreb visited Lyse Arena for the return leg of a UEFA Champions League play-off tie. The first leg in Zagreb had ended 2–2, leaving everything wide open for the Stavanger side.
On the night, Viking delivered a commanding performance, winning 3–1 in front of their own supporters to advance through the play-off round — marking the most advanced stage the club has reached in European competition in a very long time.
Three Days Later, More Joy at Lyse Arena
With the European euphoria still fresh in the air, Viking returned to domestic duty just 72 hours later, hosting Aalesund in Eliteserien Matchday 19 on Saturday, 30 August. The home side showed no signs of fatigue, running out 2–1 winners to continue their title challenge.
The back-to-back home victories mean Lyse Arena has been the scene of two crucial wins in a single week — an extraordinary stretch of football for the Stavanger faithful.
Title Race Heating Up
Viking now sit second in the Eliteserien table with 43 points from 18 matches, boasting a record of 14 wins, one draw and three defeats and a goal difference of +24. Bodø/Glimt retain top spot with 41 points from 17 games, keeping the title race extraordinarily tight as the season enters its final stretch.
With five league rounds remaining after the Aalesund result, as well as continued European involvement, the coming weeks promise to be decisive — and Lyse Arena will again be at the centre of it all.
