Viking on the March: Champions Set Pace in Title Race
Defending Eliteserien champions Viking FK sit second in the 2026 table with 40 points from 16 games, trailing Bodø/Glimt by just one point with a game in hand. Lyse Arena has proved a fortress, with six wins from six home matches and the ground packed to its 15,900 capacity on multiple occasions. A Champions League qualifying campaign is also on the horizon, with a home leg scheduled for late August.
Title Holders Surge Clear in Eliteserien
Viking FK are making an emphatic case for back-to-back Eliteserien titles in 2026. Defending champions, the Stavanger club have racked up 13 wins from 16 league outings, amassing 40 points and sitting just one point behind league leaders Bodø/Glimt — who have played one game more. With a goal difference of +24, Viking boast both the most prolific attack and one of the meanest defences in the division.
The numbers tell a compelling story: 39 goals scored and just 15 conceded across 16 matchdays. That translates to a win rate of over 81 per cent — a standard that would be the envy of any club on the continent.
Lyse Arena a Fortress
Much of Viking's dominance has been built on the back of an outstanding home record at Lyse Arena in Jåttåvågen. Six home matches have produced six victories, with the club netting 23 goals and conceding only seven in front of their own supporters. Attendances have reflected the excitement, with the 15,900-capacity stadium regularly sold out — including back-to-back full houses for the wins over Bodø/Glimt, SK Brann, Rosenborg and IK Start.
The 5–0 demolition of Bodø/Glimt on 11 April stands out as the season's standout Lyse Arena performance, a result that announced Viking's title intentions to the rest of the Eliteserien.
European Adventure Looming
Off the back of their league form, Viking have also secured a place in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round, adding European football to the schedule at Lyse Arena for the coming weeks. Fixtures against Dinamo Zagreb or FK Kauno Žalgiris are pencilled in for 18 and 25 August, with the home leg set for Lyse Arena on 25 August at 18:00.
With the Eliteserien season running all the way to 13 December and a Norwegian Cup campaign also in progress, supporters can look forward to a packed fixture list at their Stavanger home — and every reason to believe silverware could again be heading to Jåttåvågen come winter.
