Viking Hunt Back-to-Back Titles as Lyse Arena Stays Unbeaten
Defending champions Viking FK sit second in the 2026 Eliteserien with 44 points after 19 matchdays, just one point adrift of Bodø/Glimt on goal difference. An unblemished home record at Lyse Arena has been central to their title challenge, with a gruelling run of fixtures now ahead.
Eight Seasons, One Goal
Viking FK's 2026 Eliteserien campaign is shaping up to be one of the club's finest in recent memory. After 19 matchdays, the Stavanger side have recorded 14 wins, two draws, and three defeats, amassing 44 points to sit firmly second in the table — level on points with, but separated only by goal difference from, league leaders Bodø/Glimt.
The defending champions have scored 43 goals and conceded just 19, giving them a goal difference of +24, one of the best attacking and defensive records in the division. It is Viking's eighth consecutive season in the Eliteserien and their 76th campaign overall in the Norwegian top flight.
Lyse Arena Remains a Fortress
Much of Viking's strength has been built on the home comforts of Lyse Arena, where the club has maintained a perfect home record throughout the campaign. The 15,900-capacity stadium in Stavanger has proven an imposing venue for visiting sides, and that consistency at home has been a cornerstone of the title challenge.
The most recent result on the road, a 1-1 draw at Sandefjord on 4 September, showed that Viking are not invincible away from home — but it did little to dent the overall momentum of a side clearly built for a title run-in.
The Road Ahead
With the season entering its critical final stretch, Viking face a congested schedule that will test the squad's depth. Upcoming Eliteserien fixtures include a home tie against Kristiansund BK on 13 September, followed by another home match against Lillestrøm on 20 September, before a tough away trip to SK Brann in October.
Beyond the league, Viking are also involved in the 2026–27 UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds, adding European prestige to an already demanding autumn programme. With the title race seemingly a straight fight between Viking and Bodø/Glimt, every point between now and December's final matchday will count.
