Lyse Arena fortress powers Viking to the top
Viking's 3-0 win over Lillestrøm at Lyse Arena has kept the club top of the Eliteserien. The stadium has become a stronghold this season.
A commanding night at home
Viking beat Lillestrøm 3-0 at Lyse Arena on September 20, leading 2-0 at half-time. The result keeps the Stavanger club at the top of the Eliteserien table, according to the ESPN standings listing.
The win also extended the club's unbeaten home run. Viking's own news pages and the stadium's site have since described Lyse Arena as a fortress this season. The stadium site headlines the home run as unbeaten and says the club has won every home league game this season.
The stadium as a weapon
Lyse Arena opened in 2004 and is owned and operated by Viking. It holds 15,900 spectators, and the pitch measures 105 by 68 metres. The record crowd is 16,600, set against Brann on June 24, 2007.
The ground has carried the Lyse name since January 2025, when Lyse AS took over the naming rights for five years. Before that it was known as SR-Bank Arena and as Viking Stadion. This season the arena has become a difficult place for visiting sides to get anything from.
What comes next at home
The next league match at Lyse Arena is against Fredrikstad on October 17, with kick-off at 18:00 local time. Viking's reserve side, Viking II, meet Vindbjart on October 10 at 15:00. Viking II lost 1-2 to Våg on September 26 after a goalless first half.
Before that, the first team travel to Brann for the western derby on Friday, October 9. The club has released away-end tickets for that match. The Fredrikstad match is the next chance for supporters to see the leaders in the league at home.
