Lyse Arena fortress powers Viking into a huge October
Viking sit at the top of Eliteserien with the strongest home record in the league, and a Bayern München visit is coming. Fredrikstad are the next first-team opponents at Lyse Arena, on 17 October.
A fortress under the spotlight
Viking's home ground has been described as the strongest fortress in Eliteserien. The club's own stadium site says the form at Lyse Arena has helped lift the team to the top of the table. The most recent verified home result is the 3-0 win over Lillestrom on 20 September. Viking led 2-0 at half-time that evening.
The stadium site also describes Viking as joint-top and facing Bayern in what it calls a historic October. That fits a month in which the club's home ground is central to the story.
Fredrikstad next at home
The next home date for the first team is Saturday 17 October, when Fredrikstad visit Lyse Arena. Kick-off is at 18:00. Viking's momentum at home will be tested again as the autumn schedule builds.
The arena also hosts the club's second team. Viking II play Vindbjart on 10 October, with a 15:00 start. Their most recent result was a 2-1 defeat to Våg on 26 September, after a goalless first half. They are due to face Flekkerøy on 24 October.
Big nights and big away trips
As well as the visit of Bayern München, the club's recent news items point to a heavy travel schedule for supporters. Viking announced the ticket release for the away game at Aston Villa, with tickets going on sale on Monday 28 September.
There is also a Western Norway derby at Brann Stadion on Friday 9 October, and the club has put away-end tickets on sale for it.
Demand for the Bayern game has also caused a problem. On 17 September the club warned about illegal resale of tickets. Some holders of the Europa Pass were selling their passes on as single-match tickets for the Bayern game. According to the club, the prices were far above both the ordinary ticket price and what the sellers had paid for the whole pass.
Behind the scenes
The club also made an off-field announcement on 2 October. Vebjørn Hagen takes over from Eirik Terøy as recruitment manager and head of Rygerlag in Viking.
Lyse Arena has a capacity of 15,900, with 15,400 seats and 500 standing places. It has carried its current name since January 2025, when Lyse took over the naming rights under a five-year agreement covering 2025 to 2029. The deal includes a significant earmarking for Viking's women's football programme.
